Skin Cancer

I don't know if any one caught the news on the radio recently but one of the headlines was that Skin Cancer is now the leading form of cancer in the UK for people aged 15 to 34!They think the reason for this scary statistic is due to the competition between people to get a better tan than their friends! As we all know, your sun care is NOT your skincare and your skincare is NOT your sun care!
In other words, you should still be using your normal treatment creams and serums under your SPF protection to ensure the best possible care for your skin.
And, if someone really wants to get 'the best tan', then they should be using Melanin Pre-Cursor in the first instance as preparation is essential to ensure the skin is ready to protect itself. Melanin Precursor stimulates the melanin production in the skin and then migrates it to the skin’s surface prior to exposure. This preparation ensures the skin tans more easily, is less likely to burn and that the tan is deep and even. It has also been reported to prevent the sweat glands from blocking which leads to the discomfort of prickly heat!Surely all tanaholics should be snapping this fantastic product up!

Once prepared, the skin should be protected.

The Collin SPF6 – Protecting Veil is good for darker skins giving protection from UVA and UVB rays whilst keeping the skin supple and hydrated. For fairer skins, the SPF15 – Progressive Tanning Care gives a water resistant armour type protection from UVA and UVB rays. Face and delicate places need our Multi Protection SPF30. This will also prevent pigmentation marks and other sun associated skin problems. Remember, this is sun care, so you need to keep up with your usual cleansing, serum, and cream routine. (Remember to cleanse thoroughly to remove all traces of the SPF's) For people who invest money and time regularly into their skin, the option of using a lesser quality product whilst their skin is most vulnerable should not be an option.

Do not be tempted to buy cheap supermarket brands!! and make sure that you apply enough cream to achieve full SPF cover, most people use far to little and therefore still burn!

Repair the skin – After sun's come in many guises. The aim of the product is to repair and hydrate the skin. For the body, Collin recommends the Beauty Hydrating Fluid. A light, non-sticky lotion, which is easily absorbed and increases hydration by up to 35% in 3 hours. For faces and areas that may be suffering from over-exposure, try our Native Collagen Gel. 10% Native Marine Collagen means the skin’s regeneration process will be stimulated to repair the damage. Remember, collagen is still used in burns units of hospitals for that very reason. This gel can be used as a mask and then removed or slept in all night. Alternatively, try the Water Radiance Mask – rehydrates by up to 49%. Ideal for quenching even the thirstiest of sun-kissed skin.  And remember - TAN SAFLEY!

Who will you vote for?

Monday, 29 June 2009 08:10 by Leila

What is it that makes the difference between a good supplier and a really excellent one?
It could be great service, attention to detail, understanding your needs, going the extra mile, or something else which makes you want to carry on placing your business with that supplier.

The Guild have launched the Guild Awards of Excellence 2009, to help them find the suppliers who go that extra mile.

They are looking for suppliers and trainers in the beauty, holistic, and nails industry who have really impressed you. Whether it was a great website, fast service, or that extra help when you had a problem, they want to know.

They would like you, the therapists and technicians, to nominate the companies that you feel serve you best. They will put the nominations together and compile a shortlist for you to vote on. The best in each category will then receive a Guild Award of Excellence.

The categories available for nomination are:

  • Best Customer Service
  • Best Web Services
  • Best Skincare Supplier
  • Best Nails Supplier
  • Best Tanning Supplier
  • Best Uniform Supplier
  • Best Equipment & Furniture Supplier
  • Best Hair Removal Supplier
  • Best Wholesaler
  • Best Training School
  • Best Supplier Specific Training

You can nominate as many companies as you like, in as many categories as you like, and anyone can make a nomination for any company. As an extra incentive, the names of all those who put forward a nomination will be put into a hat, and one will win a 1GB iPod Shuffle!

The last day for nomination is 17th July 2009. You nomination will need your details (so that you can win the iPod), the name of the company you are nominating, the category you are nominating them for, and the reason you are nominating them. You can place a nomination by clicking here, or, email the above details to louisa@beautyguild.com.
