A combination skin type is more than one skin type. In this case, the combination is a dry skin type with surface dehydration. The dryness is a lack of the skin’s natural oil and is the genetic skin type. The dehydration is caused by environment, caffeine, alcohol, smoking and central heating to name but a few and is a lack of water/hydration.
Without proper advice and care, a combination skin can be difficult to care for and will never look its best. You will see open pores of medium size across the T-zone, often with greying in the base of the pore, but not true blackheads. The side panels will often feel tight and papery and, in extreme cases, milia will form, especially around the eyes. The skin will usually develop a shine by midday and congestion and lumps under the skin are rife, along with spots around the chin. This is due to incorrect products being used.
Ageing occurs as maturity is reached, but these changes happen slowly. The signs of ageing arrive in the mid to late twenties, which suggests the process starts in our early twenties and quickens considerably in our thirties.
A dry skin shows expression lines a lot earlier than other types, due to the lack of oil and a dehydrated skin shows fine lines due to the ‘parched’ skin surface.
Both problems are corrected with a combination of hydrating and nourishing treatments and products.
If cared for properly, the youthfulness of a dehydrated/dry combination skin can be maintained and premature signs of ageing alleviated, leaving a soft, radiant, smooth and manageable skin free from many of the original imperfections.
